GORE® SKYFLEX® Aircraft Sealant for Fuel Applications is designed to resist UV, aging, and operates up to 356°F (180 °C) for high temperature fuel applications. It is a reusable, non-curing, non-hazardous, form-in-place sealant that provides excellent protection against corrosion, water ingress, fuels, and other environmental influences including oils. The fuel sealant requires less stress to seal than traditional sealants and offers more controllable panel flushness. The longevity of the sealant, along with the weight savings of using a thinner product, makes GORE® SKYFLEX® Aircraft Sealant for Fuel Applications ideal for fuel applications.
Alternatives to GORE® SKYFLEX® Aircraft Sealant for Fuel Applications include rubber sheet, polysulfides, and vulcanized rubber sheets. These sealants can generate additional work for the end user. Aging rubber sealants can harden, become brittle, crack and fall into fuel tanks creating a flight hazard and causing unscheduled maintenance. GORE® SKYFLEX® Aircraft Sealant for Fuel Applications eliminates this unscheduled maintenance.
GORE® SKYFLEX® Aircraft Sealant for Fuel Applications is available in a variety of forms including die cut gaskets, standard size sheets, and tapes. Gore can manufacture die cut gaskets from customer's drawings with a maximum width of 18 in (457mm). Nominal thickness of both sheets and tapes are 0.4mm, 0.6mm, 0.8mm, 1.0mm, and 1.2mm. Standard sheet sizes ranges from 6 in. by 12 in. (152mm by 304mm) up to 18 in. by 36 in. (457mm by 914mm). Tapes are available in widths from 0.5 in. (12.7mm) to 5.0 in. (127mm). GORE® SKYFLEX® Aircraft Sealant for Fuel Applications has been approved for use by major aircraft manufacturers and maintenance facilities.
Because of the excellent sealing properties of Gore fuel sealant, thinner sealants can be used while still achieving a reliable seal, thus reducing total weight. Finished thickness goals can be achieved over wide range of panel torque loading, allowing reliable flush mounting of the panel when panel flushness is critical.
