Installation
Sealed Low and Extra Long Sealed Low Friction System: Derailleur
TOOLS NEEDED
- repair stand
- electrician wire cutters
- metric allen wrenches
- torque wrench
- new razor blade
- sharp awl or punch
- bicycle cable and housing cutters
SUPPORT
- Place bicycle in repair stand and shift chain onto smallest ring/cog combination.
- Note: There are two different lengths of cables in the kit. The longer cable and liner are for the rear derailleur, the shorter cable and liner are for the front derailleur. Each cable has two end terminations - a larger end (Shimano®/SRAM®, 4.4mm) and a smaller end (Campagnolo®, 4.0mm). Select the end that corresponds to your brand of shifter and remove the end termination you will not be using.
- Remove old cables and housing; note cable routing and location of ferrules. Using old housing pieces as a pattern, cut new housing lengths to match. Using wire cutters and awl make sure housing ends are free of burrs and wide open. Install new housing into place on bike.
- Turn barrel adjusters fully clockwise.
- Remove new cable from liner and carefully feed the liner through the first length of housing-non-flanged end first.
- Place a silver ferrule over the start of the cable housing and liner flange. Note that the flanged end of the liner is locked into place between the end of the housing and the ferrule.

- Carefully feed liner through the new housing and cable stops, adding silver ferrules at the barrel adjusters and black ferrules at the cable housing stops on the frame. If liner does not fit through barrel adjuster, use a 3/32" OR 2 mm drill to slightly enlarge the opening.

- Pull the liner taught within the housing and carefully cut the liner using the guidelines below:
FRONT DERAILLEUR: If your cable passes under the bottom bracket, ensure liner continues through bottom bracket guide. Trim liner approximately 1" (25 mm) from front derailleur pinch bolt.
REAR DERAILLEUR: Trim liner approximately 3/8" (10 mm) outside of the cable exit. - Carefully feed the new cable into the shifter, then through the new housing and liner assembly. Take care not to damage the coating on any sharp edges.
- Insert a Grub seal by twisting it as it is pulled over the cable large opening first, and cover 3/8" (10 mm) of exposed liner. This completely seals the system.
- With cable held taught, secure it in the pinch bolt and tighten to derailleur manufacturer's torque requirements. Trim off excess cable and crimp a cap on the cable end. Slide red crimp cap cover over crimp cap.
- Adjust shifting as usual. Repeat as necessary for other derailleur.
NOTE: Some installations may require drilling or filing the housing stop openings slightly to allow free passage of the continuous liner.
Do not use grease, oil, or any other lubricant with the GORE™ RideOn® Cable Systems.
WARNING: With the exception of the barrel adjuster opening, do not alter or remove any of the original derailleur components as this could result in a system failure.
