Installation

Low Friction System: Brakes

TOOLS NEEDED

  • repair stand
  • electrician wire cutters
  • metric allen wrenches
  • torque wrench
  • metric end wrenches
  • sharp awl or punch
  • bicycle cable and housing cutters

SUPPORT

  1. Place bicycle in repair stand.
  2. Note: There are two different lengths of cables in the kit. The longer cable is for the rear brake, the shorter cable is for the front brake. Each cable has 2 end terminations - a SRAM/Shimano style road end and a Campagnolo style road end. The Campagnolo style end is marked with either a letter C or the letters CC. Select the end that corresponds to your type of brake and remove the end termination you will not be using.
  3. Remove old cables and housing; note cable routing and location of ferrules. Using old housing pieces as a pattern, cut new housing lengths to match. Using wire cutters and awl make sure housing ends are free of burrs and wide open. Install new housing into place on bike.
  4. Turn barrel adjusters to fully clockwise.
  5. Carefully feed new cable through new housing and cable housing stops, adding ferrules as needed - nosed ferrules are to be used at the cable stops, the non-nosed ferrules should be used at the brake lever (if needed) and brake caliper.
  6. With cable held taught, secure it in pinch bolt and tighten to brake manufacturer's torque requirements. Trim off excess cable and crimp a cap on cable end.
  7. Adjust brakes as usual.

NOTE: Do not use grease, oil, or any other lubricant with the GORE® RideOnŽ Cable System.

WARNING: Do not alter or remove any of the original brake components as this could result in a system failure.
